We have worked with community members and/or council for successful outcomes on many more projects…

  • Public Foreshore – Gloucester: move by private landowner to close access to public beach.  Outcome:  SOF supported local residents in an action.  Council refused.
  • Blackcurrant Island boat ramp proposal:  proposed road across Hydeaway Bay Beach, causeway to the island, car & trailer parking/washdown area and slipway into Great Barrier Reef marina park waters, surrounded by pristine coral.  Outcome: SOF supported local residents in their excellent campaign. State Government identified Dingo Beach boat ramp upgrade as preferred location.
  • Traffic lights –  Airlie Beach Residents Traffic Action group:  a series of traffic light intersections were proposed by Dept Main Roads.  Outcome:  Although traffic lights were installed at Paluma and Shute Harbour Road intersection several roundabouts were installed at other intersections. Current: Unfortunately, Main Roads recently told residents that traffic lights would be installed at William Murray and Macarthur Drive intersection with Shute Harbour Road. Our community questioned these decisions and presently the project is stalled while Main Roads conduct a review of the project.
  • Save Our Airport:   Council signed a ‘secret’ deed of agreement with Laguna Quays to close/sell off Proserpine Airport – a community owned asset.  And move our regional airport to Laguna Quays.  There was no public interest in this remarkably dodgy deal between a developer and various levels of government.  The community led by resident Rogin Taylor successfully protested. Outcome:  Proserpine Airport remained in place and in public hands.
